Fenland District Council got in touch with ShapeYourPlace this afternoon to say, “There are different types of lava lamp, some containing a mixture of water, mineral oil and wax. The safest way to dispose of it is to wrap it up carefully and take it to a household waste site, and it will be disposed of with electrical waste.

For details of your nearest site please visit http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/environment/recycling/recyclingcentres/default.htm

If your lamp is still working why not try putting it on Freecycle- http://www.freecycle.org. Alternatively, contact the Waste Strategy Officer at Fenland District Council for further advice.”
